Institute for World Economy of the Romanian Academy

Mihaela Gramaticu is a researcher at the Institute for World Economy of the Romanian Academy, within the Writing Projects Department. Since October 2020, she has made significant contributions to economic research and project development. With a robust foundation in both research and political science, she is a key author and co-author of influential chapters in the Institute’s annual studies, analysing global economic trends and the viability of the European Social Model, with a focus on countries including the Czech Republic, Croatia, and Greece.

Her professional experience also includes expertise in EU-funded initiatives, such as TRAVERSUS (since January 2025), and she has been instrumental in the success of the Erasmus+ project DiGreen (2022–2024): Digital Government for Green Municipalities and Cities, contributing to key deliverables such as the Handbook of GREEN and DIGITAL Good Practices. Her analytical acumen was further demonstrated during her role as an Analyst for the SEED+ project (September–January 2023), where she pioneered the methodological research, coordination, and editing of the Barometer of Social Entrepreneurship study. She previously gained experience as a Project Assistant at the European Institute of Romania for the Eurofound Project (October 2014 to January 2015).

Mihaela holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the National School of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA), with her doctoral research focusing on the critical issue of access to and participation in education for Roma children from a capability approach perspective. She also completed a Master’s degree in Political Science, specializing in Politics, Gender, and Minorities, at SNSPA’s Faculty of Political Science. She holds a degree in Philology from the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Letters. She has experience as a Guest Researcher at Bielefeld University in Germany (September 2012 to May 2013) and was an Erasmus student at Northumbria University in the United Kingdom (September 2003 to February 2004). This strong academic background is complemented by a decade of experience as a Trainer and Head of Service in the educational sector.

She is a prolific researcher, publishing in economic and political science journals, and regularly presents her findings at national and international scientific conferences across Europe. Mihaela is an experienced communicator and a proven team leader, consistently applying her organizational, managerial, and cross-cultural competencies honed throughout her professional career and international academic exchanges in Germany and the UK.
